I was helping a friend do some performance upgrades on his cheapie 49cc Chinese scooter using a kit that came with a new carb, ignition components and the like. I don’t know the exact cause, but ever since then my lower lip has swollen up to uncomfortable dimensions, and it itches like crazy. Was it a bug bite, or did I rub my lip with a little gasoline on my hands?
Regardless of the cause, this is really annoying. I’ve taken some Claritin, and now need to find out what the hell is going on and how to fix it. This kind of thing is always strangest when it’s the first time it happens, and to be honest, I hope this never happens again.

Call a dermatologist/doctor friend or something.

Unfortunately, all of my professional friends are lawyers. Being unemployed and without medical coverage at the moment I don’t know who to call for affordable care. Based on research I think I’ll try the OTC drug route and see what happens.

If I get grass or celery on my skin, and then exposed to the sun that happens to me. Same with poison oak.

Benadryl will probably work better. I’ve had the same thing happen with a spider bite on my lip, but it went away in a couple of hours. Totally sucked though, and my lip cracked open in multiple places lol. Chapstick would have probably helped.

I'll have to check, but I think Claritin is all I have around the house. I'll check with a friend and see what he's got in his medicine cabinet.

Damn?
I’d hit a local urgent care joint. And stay away from Chinese Scooters!

Benadryl is an anti histamine I’m not sure what claratin is. But benadryl is kinda the go-to for allergic reactions and swelling. There is also an ointment but it’s probably pretty gross if you get it in your mouth.

After doing a little research it seems that Benadryl is a more appropriate medication. I stopped by a friend’s house and grabbed a few out of the big-ass Costco container. We’ll see if this makes a difference.

Follow-up: now the upper lip is swollen as well, worse than the lower lip, and a bit numb. I tried drinking water out of a bottle and ended up spilling a good portion of it into my lap. The first Benadryl knocked me out, and I expect that the two I took as a follow-on several hours later should knock me down until late tomorrow morning.

Not a doctor, but possibly an allergic reaction? Correlation does not equal causation. Eat or drink anything strange? Rub something weird on your face?

I guess it went missing during editing, but the reason I mentioned the scooter was because I got a little gasoline on my face during the carb replacement. I don’t recall having such a reaction before to gasoline.
Breakfast was the normal fast food stuff, but lunch was something cooked up by my friend. Other than sulfur, I don't recall having any food allergies, but perhaps I've developed some over the years and wasn't aware of them.

Possibly fuel. If it was in the food and you were allergic, you’d have more than puffy lips (swollen throat or something). Were there any additives in the fuel, or possibly some other chemicals on other parts you were handling? For example, you could have had something on your hand / towel / shirt / whatever. Went to wipe your face after splashing gasoline, and proceeded to wipe something else on your face.
